President's Message: Looking to the Future in 2019

Happy New Year to all UPHA’s members and supporters! Last year finished in a whirlwind, but that’s pretty much how the whole year felt--one big whirlwind of change and activity! UPHA Board members and staff finished the year strong, working hard in behalf of the association. Some of our current efforts include:

  • Our communications team is preparing to launch UPHA’s new website.  The website will allow us to better communicate with members, professionals,
and the general public as we promote and advocate for public health, with increased functionality and updated content.
  • The advocacy team is partnering with USOPHE to hold the Advocacy Academy on February 13. This event is designed to develop our skills in working
with our elected leaders to protect the public’s health through policy and funding. More details are in this newsletter.
  • The conference planning committee is busy planning the 2019 Utah Conference for Public Health that will be held in Ogden, April 24-26. We can’t wait to share with you the lineup of quality speakers! Don’t forget, we’re still accepting abstracts.
  • Behind the scenes the fiscal unit and member services are updating our databases and financial systems to prepare the association for continued and sustained growth.  UPHA is poised for a very productive and successful 2019. Our continued success depends on your support and we encourage you to get involved in UPHA activities. Opportunities to get involved include attending one of our events, participating in one of our sections, running for a leadership position (we’ll be looking for nominations in the next couple of months), donating to UPHA, and more!

On behalf of the UPHA Board and staff, I wish you a healthy, happy, and prosperous 2019!
Anna Dillingham, UPHA President
