Board nominations

Attention aspiring UPHA leaders! The Nominations Committee is now accepting candidate recommendations for the following offices:

  1. Vice President, 4-year term: acts on behalf of the President when directed, co-chairs the Program Committee to plan and implement the annual Public Health Conference for Utah; in subsequent years becomes President-Elect, then President, then Past-President.
  2. Board Member – Fiscal Unit, 3-year term. Helps to maintain accounting systems, prepare the association’s annual budget, identify additional funding sources for policy and legislative functions and oversee all other Fiscal Unit responsibilities.
  3. Board Member – Communications Unit, 3-year term. Helps to produce UPHA E-News, manage the website and communication services, organize the annual National Public Health Week and oversee all other Communication Unit responsibilities.
  4. Board Member – Policy Unit, 3-year term. Helps to establish legislative priorities, develop policies and procedures, hold an annual Advocacy Summit and Public Health Day at the Legislature and oversee all other Policy Unit responsibilities.
  5. Nominations Committee Member, 3-year term. Helps to recruit candidates, publicize and implement annual elections. Chairs the committee during third year of term.

Submit nominations by March 1, 2011. Voting will be held online this year, with election results announced at the Public Health Conference for Utah, April 5-6, 2011. Contact a committee member (Beverly Hyatt Neville, Kevin Condra, Laurie Baksh) to nominate yourself or someone else.

Got the winter blues? Tired of the same ol' day to day? Do something different and nominate a colleague for their outstanding efforts in public health:

  • Distinguished Beatty Award
  • Public Health Hero /Heroine Award
  • Rising Star Award
  • Youth Award

Download nomination forms here and submit by March 14, 2011. The Beatty Award requires supporting documentation so give yourself enough time to obtain these documents. Awards will be presented at the Public Health Conference for Utah Award Luncheon, Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center. The 2011 Public Health Conference for Utah will be held at the South Towne Expo Center, 9575 South State Street, Sandy, UT 84070, April 4-6, 2011. Join us as wereach new heights.” Speakers will:

  • Share progress and discovery in key public health areas
  • Discuss goals and expectations
  • Describe innovative strategies for achieving our collective mission

member id numbers

UPHA is transitioning to membership numbers. Every member of UPHA will receive a membership number prior to the upcoming Public Health Conference for Utah. This membership number will be required to register as a member and receive the member rate. If your membership expires during the first quarter of 2011, you’ll need to renew before the conference to receive the member rate.

501 (c)3 status

UPHA is now officially a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and has been approved for Utah sales and use tax exemption as a charitable institution. Kudos to Laurie Baksh and Lynne Nilson for this huge effort!
