UPHA/USOPHE Virtual Advocacy Webinar: How to Advocate Your Local Government Officials

By the end of the webinar, attendees will learn how to identify who represents them on their local city or county commission or council and Boards of Health, how to engage their local government officials in the policy process and how to advocate on public health issues.

Local policies have the greatest impact on our public health. Throughout the year, local city and county commissioners/councils discuss and advocate public health policy issues that affect the health and well-being of Utah residents. In addition, local policy makers annually fund local public health agencies. It is critical for public health professionals to understand the how to communicate with their local Board of Health to support evidence-based regulations and ordinances that will positively impact health indicators and decrease the burden of illnesses in their communities in Utah.This session webinar will also include a little information about the local policy making process and the difference between advocacy and lobbying. 

  • By the end of the session attendees will learn how to identify who represents them on their local city or county commission or council and Boards of Health.
  • By the end of the session attendees will learn how to discuss and advocate for local public health policy issues that affect the health and well-being of Utah residents.

Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credits and/or Certified in Public Health (CPH) credits may be available for attending this webinar.
