Community Health Profile surveys

Complete a short survey for a chance to win a 3G Kindle (public health professionals only)! Len Novilla (UPHA Policy Management Unit leader) and her BYU research team are currently creating health profiles for various communities in Utah. Your survey response will help her team refine these community health profiles.

If you’re a policy maker, take this survey. You’ll be able to share your opinion on the need for a health profile specific to the community you serve and on the various social factors that can impact the individual and collective health of Utahans.

If you’re a public health professional, take this survey. Thank you to those who’ve already participated! To ensure your name is included in the Kindle drawing, enter your name & email address here (public health professionals only). 2 winners will be drawn Sept 13, 2011.

Your response will not be disclosed with any personally identifying information. You will not be re-contacted regarding your answers. If you have any questions about the surveys, please contact Len Novilla.

Policy Management Unit goals and activities

The Policy Management Unit has identified 3 priority goals and activities for the 2011-2012 year:

  1. Map the Policy Management Unit’s vision, mission, objectives and priorities and evaluate direction.
    • Build and nurture collaborative relationships within UPHA and between UPHA, policy makers and other sectors to improve population health in Utah.
  2. Tackle Public Health’s fit in the Health Care Reform Law
    • Hold an Advocacy Meeting that will help define the role of public in the new Health Care Reform Law and within the context of an economic recession and evolving political climate.
    • Identify and discuss future topics of importance in the design and delivery of public health services such as the Health-in-All Policy and the re-framing of public health messages.
  3. Identify UPHA’s legislative priorities as “winnable” policy battles for the 2012 legislative session.

"i am public health"

Meghan Arnold, UPHA Student Caucus Co-President

I am also a graduate student at the University of Utah. This summer I spent 3 weeks leading a public health project in rural India for the U. Along with 10 other students, my time was spent assessing drinking water quality and documenting the sanitation situation in the villages. In India we are partnered with a local NGO and the local health university. The project was successful in partnership building and also in determining community priorities. The water testing and sanitation results have led to village curiosity about health linkages in water, hygiene and sanitation. These successes will hopefully translate into active project work next summer. Public health is sooo exciting!
