Announcing the 2011 Annual Utah Public Health Conference, April 4-6, 2011

As we enter the new decade, public health professionals have much to celebrate and still more to discover. A full plenary of speakers will:

Call for Abstracts

UPHA announces a call for abstracts for the 2011 Utah Public Health Conference, to be held April 4-6, 2011 at the Utah Cultural Celebration Center in West Valley City, Utah. We encourage abstracts in all areas of public health, as well as those highlighting the theme “Reaching New Heights: Realizing our full potential.” Abstracts must be submitted online. Authors must provide complete and accurate contact information to be notified of abstract status. Membership in UPHA is not required to submit an abstract; however, if your abstract is accepted, presenting authors must become UPHA members as well as register for the conference. The submission deadline is 11:59pm MST, Friday, January 14, 2011. We look forward to your contribution at the 2011 Utah Public Health Conference.

First Annual UPHA Policy/Advocacy Conference

Do you wonder how in the world you will ever make a meaningful and lasting difference in the public health realm? Well, we have a great idea for you. Join us for the first annual UPHA Policy/Advocacy Conference, where you will see firsthand the crucial role policy plays in enhancing and changing public health.

HHS Announces the Nation’s New Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Agenda

Earlier this month, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services unveiled Healthy People 2020, the nation’s new 10-year goals and objectives for health promotion and disease prevention, and “myHealthyPeople” a new challenge for technology application developers to create easy-to-use applications for professionals working with the new national health objectives. Based on input from public health experts, government officials, organizations and the public, Healthy People 2020 now includes a number of new topic areas including Dementias, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Health and Social Determinants of Health.
